Dog Nail Trimming

Nail trimming and grinding are activities that are often feared by both dogs and owners.
Many dogs cower or flee the room at the mere sight of clippers. The trim process can be even more of a struggle if the dog flails, growls or attempts to bite.

So, let us help.

All of our Scrubbers locations throughout Metro Detroit provide dog nail trimming services for all breeds, shapes and sizes at an affordable price. And our talented dog-grooming staff is always available for walk-in nail trimming. No appointment is necessary.

Long, unkempt nails not only look unattractive, but over time they can do serious damage to your dog -- not to mention your hardwood floors. The longer your dog’s nails grow, the longer the quick will grow too, making it more difficult to trim the nails without cutting the quick.

Some dogs can be extremely nervous and anxious about getting their nails clipped. This can result clipping the nail too short. That’s where our professional staff come in.

Long, overgrown nails can become uncomfortable or even infected, causing numerous health problems. Ingrown, broken, or split nails will make running and walking painful and difficult and can have long lasting negative effects on bones and joints.

In extreme cases, overgrown nails can curve and grow into the pad of the foot. But even if they are not that out of control, long nails can get torn or split, which is very painful and, depending on severity, may need to be treated by a veterinarian. In other words, don’t wait.

Unless your pet is a very active outdoor dog, their nails will need to be trimmed on a regular basis -- anywhere from bi-weekly to once a month.

Why do I need to trim my dog's nails?

Allowing a dog's nails to grow too long can result in injuries. Not only can the nails crack, but your dog may get their toenail caught in the carpet or bedding and rip the nail off, which can be extremely painful, and will likely require immediate veterinary attention.

Once nails are overgrown, your dog may require sedation in order to grind his or her nails down to the proper length. Bottom line: It can be a traumatizing experience for everyone involved.

At Scrubbers, we understand the importance of maintaining a regular schedule for dog nail trims, and we value the importance of developing and maintaining a positive relationship between dog owner and dog.
